James Jones scored a season-high three points as the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Miami Heat 111-105 on Wednesday night in the All-Stars Game.
Jones had 14 points, 11 rebounds and six assists for his fifth career triple-double, which also set a franchise record for most points scored by a player in a single game.
“He’s the leader of this team,” Cavs coach Tyronn Lue said.
“And if he can go out there and score three or four points every night, that’s a big, big deal.
That’s what he’s all about.”
Jones, the sixth overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, had scored a combined 16.8 points in the regular season and postseason.
He scored just nine points in 20 minutes in the NBA Finals.
Cleveland has lost three straight to Miami and has not won the series since the 2008-09 season.
Jones is averaging 20.0 points in 11 games this season.
He was not at the All Stars Game because of a calf injury suffered in the Cavs’ Game 5 loss to the Boston Celtics.
Jones had been averaging 23.7 points and 11.8 rebounds this season when he missed the last two games with a knee injury.
After the game, Lue acknowledged that Jones “can’t be a bad guy” after he was a part of a physical altercation at halftime.
The Cavaliers trailed by as many as 19 points in James Jones’ absence.
“It’s not the easiest game for him,” Lue added.
“But he knows that and he’s been through a lot in his career.
And he’s got to stay in control and get ready to play.
He’s been ready all year.
And it’s his time.”
With LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love in the lineup, James Jones is making the most of his opportunities.
