YASUO, Japan — A young man in his late teens named Vladimir built a tiny computer on the back of his dad’s truck.
A year later, the computer had a built-in keyboard and a monitor.
“I think the whole family liked it, and I was happy to be able to keep it,” Vladimir said.
And now, Vladimir is hoping to create a computer for his kids.
I have this idea for a computer, and the only way to do that is to sell it, he said.
Vladimir has been working on his idea for several years.
Yasuo, a software engineer, built the computer himself in the same year, and it’s now in the hands of his daughter.
The problem with making a new computer from scratch is that it’s a lot of work.
He and Yasuo are both students of electrical engineering at Japan’s Kashiwazaki Institute of Technology.
They’re trying to create an open-source system that allows anyone to build software that can be used by anyone.
We want to help other people to build computers, they said.
The two started out by building a computer that ran on a laptop, but they eventually decided to build it in the car and make it into a small desktop.
That was a big help, said Yasuo.

Building a computer in a garage was a lot easier than in a factory.

The computer would have been even more expensive in a shop, said Vladimir.
