Bleacher report The Lakers are taking a risk with their pick, but the risk is worth it.
The Lakers have been the odd-man out of the lottery and are still waiting for a franchise player to step up, and the risk of getting one is worth the reward.
That being said, it is a very risky gamble that has led to some disappointment for many Lakers fans, and while the Lakers have not been particularly dominant since trading Pau Gasol, it will be a much different team with Lonzo Ball in the fold.
The Lakers have a lot of holes to fill with their roster, but there are two players they should be keeping an eye on: UCLA’s De’Aaron Fox and Florida State’s Jahlil Okafor.
Fox has the potential to be a very good big man at the next level, and he will have the opportunity to be the Lakers’ No. 1 option at the 3 spot if he can improve his shot and improve his defensive game.
Okafor is the type of player who could help the Lakers find themselves a top-three center, as he could fill the role of the prototypical No. 3 big man.
He will need to improve his outside shot, but he should be a capable scorer off the bench and could help fill out a team that lacks depth at the point guard position.
There are plenty of players that could go in the first round and that will be interesting to watch, and it is worth taking a look at just how high the Lakers are going to need to select their next big man to help them become a contender in the East.
The Celtics are a very strong team, and I would expect them to have the pick at No. 7.
Boston has a solid core and could be able to land an elite player to help the team.
